Picano

Eugenio Picano, MD, PhD, is a clinical cardiologist with a strong background in cardiovascular imaging and multidisciplinary research. He has authored 550 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has an H-index of 105 according to Google Scholar as of January 1, 2025.

He earned his degree in medicine in 1981, completed a Cardiology fellowship in 1984, and received his Ph.D. in Cardiovascular Pathophysiology from Pisa University in 1993. Until October 30th, 2023, he served as the Research Director of the National Research Council. Starting in 2024, a Visiting Professor at Belgrade University’s cardiology department, Clinical Center of Belgrade, Serbia, and a foreign member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

He is recognized for his contributions to stress echocardiography, medical radiation effects on doctors and patients, extravascular lung water detection by lung ultrasound, and non-invasive biopsy of atherosclerotic plaque by tissue characterization techniques.
